About Larger Than Life

Our basic principle is: to offer people positive experiences in creative teamplay with others, in a green environment with simple, mostly natural materials, with respect for people, animals and natural environment.

Larger Than Life initiator and owner, Steve Pasveer, after finishing his study Psychology of Culture and Religion in Nijmegen in 1996, has worked for over 20 different outdoor organizations. During the first years Steve mostly worked as a freelance instructor, in due time the number of activities, events and trainings under his own flag increased.

During and after this period Steve built up experience in working with all kinds of groups, activities, locations and situations.

After his study of Psychology Steve followed (instructors) courses in the following disciplines: rock-, tree-, and industrial climbing, canyoning, and paragliding. Besides that, he participated in internal (instructors) courses at a number of outdoor companies, for example in kayaking, mountainbiking, the use of various knots, instruction didactics, survival- and orientation techniques, and in giving communication- and team trainings.

An intensive Train the Trainer course broadened and further developed company- and teamtrainings supported with outdoor tasks. As an outdoor trainer, Steve works together with training & coaching enterprises like Taberna, Chenta, Haagse Beek, Pragmavision and Mountain Network.

Another side of Steve lies in the creative area. He has designed and made a great number of props, costumes and backgrounds for a variety of activities and events; like a complete Elven costume, 'antique' maps for the Pirates' Treasure Trail, wooden team games, and items for theatrical activities, among other things for the benefit of the SKJ summer camps - for children from Nijmegen (see the top of our photo page, for example)..

On the musical side Steve has been active since 1990 in writing songs and composing for guitar and vocals. Since 1999 he began to focus on music production, learned to play some new instruments, and built up skills in recording and sound editing techniques, like editing of soundtracks, mixing and mastering. Steve also designs and edits album sleeves and booklets.

At Larger Than Life events Steve performs as a singer/guitarist at camp fires. As Steve Merlin he currently works on his third and fourth rock album. You'll find his first two albums on stevemerlin.bandcamp.com. You can find more information about Steve Merlin on www.stevemerlin.nl.
